New CD: Mario Lanza: The Definitive Student Prince

I'm thrilled to announce the forthcoming release of our 16th CD collaboration with the London-based Sepia Records: Mario Lanza: The Definitive Student Prince.

I'll be posting more details here soon, but for now here is an extract from the accompanying 12-page booklet:

This unique CD comprises every song that Lanza recorded from The Student Prince, in addition to being the first compilation to bring together all the complete recordings featured in the 1954 film version.

Spanning the years 1946 to 1959, it includes rare live radio performances and an unreleased MGM rehearsal of “Gaudeamus Igitur,” while the bonus tracks section features seven restored gems from other popular operettas. As a further attraction, many of the tracks are appearing here in stereo for the first time, thanks to the process known as DES (Digitally Extracted Stereo), a technological breakthrough that brings remarkable clarity to formerly mono recordings without affecting their integrity.

Update (April 10): Click here to read my extended forum post on this CD.

Update (May 9): Mario Lanza: The Definitive Student Prince is now available directly from Sepia Records for immediate delivery. Click here to order the CD. If you prefer to order this CD from Amazon or other online sellers, it will be officially released on June 26, 2026. (The release date has changed twice owing to shipping delays, but I have been assured that June 26 will stand.)

Below are THREE video promos for the CD featuring a number of audio samples from the disc.

PROMO #1 is an overview of the CD, focusing on the selections from The Student Prince, and is available here in two versions: first as a YouTube video (with a 4K super-high quality option if you watch it at YouTube), and second as an embedded video on this site (as all or part of the video may be blocked for viewing/listening in some countries).

PROMO #2 focuses on the bonus tracks featured on this CD. This is best watched at YouTube itself, where you can choose the 4K option for superior picture and sound.

Promo #3 is an overview of Lanza's four recordings of the "Serenade" from The Student Prince, and includes extracts from the two versions featured on the new CD.
