Mario Lanza - L'Alba Separa dalla Luce l'Ombra

About this recording:
Mario Lanza made his only recording of composer Paolo Tosti (1846-1916)'s and lyricist Gabriele D'Annunzio (1863-1938)'s 1907 song "L'Alba Separa dalla Luce l'Ombra" at Rome's Cinecittà studios in June 1959, barely four months before his death. Sung in the original Italian, this was one of twelve songs that Lanza recorded for his album Mario Lanza Sings Caruso Favorites (released posthumously in 1960). The conductor was Paul Baron.

Side Note: Frustratingly, Lanza's voice was not at all well captured by the recording engineers on this stereo album, with "L'Alba Separa dalla Luce l'Ombra" arguably the most poorly recorded of the twelve songs. Happily, however, the London-based company Sepia Records has remastered this recording for its 2021 release The Immortal Voice of Mario Lanza: A Centennial Celebration.
