Written by composer Emanuele Nutile (1862-1932) in 1900, with lyrics by
his fellow Neapolitan Ferdinando Russo, "Mamma Mia, Che Vo' Sape?" was a staple of
Mario Lanza's recital repertoire, and also featured in two of the tenor's
films. (click on image for a larger view)
Vaghissima Sembianza
Mario Lanza recorded Stefano Donaudy's 1892 song in June 1959 (exact date unknown), barely four months before his death. Incredibly, the Sicilian-born Donaudy (1879-1925) was just thirteen when he composed this song, for which his even younger brother, Alberto (1880-1941), wrote the (Italian) lyrics.
